Sometimes I see a girl’s shoulders/collarbone area and I’m suddenly possessed by the spirit of a 19th century lesbian first seeing another girl removing her dress to reveal pantaloons and corset in the dorms at the all-girls boarding school her parents sent her to so she may be trained in proper etiquette

A new novel series about Kyoshi has been announced! The first book in the “epic YA saga”, The Rise of Kyoshi, is hitting shelves in July 2019!!
This is a big surprise and a very welcome one at that! The author is F.C. Yee with Mike DiMartino consulting, and the series will tentatively be (for now) two books long, and cover, as the title suggests, the rise of the Earth Kingdom Avatar we all know and love, with this synopsis to go on so far:
“The first of two novels based on Kyoshi, The Rise of Kyoshi maps her journey from a girl of humble origins to the merciless pursuer of justice who is still feared and admired centuries after she became the Avatar.”
The senior vice president of the publisher for the books had this to say:
“Bringing Kyoshi’s previously untold story to life in original novels will be a major pop culture event, not only for fans of the show, but also for readers hungry for a new epic YA saga. The Rise of Kyoshi has all the hallmarks of what YA readers love — bold storytelling set in a rich landscape with a strong heroine at the forefront!”
This is a really cool development for the franchise and will hopefully open up the avenue for more books about different time periods and characters from the world of Avatar, something we’ve been asking for for a long time!
The Rise of Kyoshi is 336 pages long, it’s coming out in July 2019, and it can be preordered here.
Y’ALL I’M FREAKING OUT!!!!!

Hey so wlw fans who want good representation: Harlots has six queer women, one ongoing wlw relationship with a woman of color, another “friendship” allies to friends to lovers wlw relationship, and one friends to lovers to friends wlw relationship with a beautiful goodbye kiss. Two of them have almost died but are still living (if you like a good “fuck you BYG trope” this is your show) and a gay man who is on everyone’s shit list has escaped murder.
Not to mention that all of the women are written incredibly well, a black man is one of the heroes (after all the women) and cherishes his family of women, and it’s just all around feminist.
Why are y’all sleeping on this?
Miss Major, a Black trans woman who’s been an activist for LGBT communities for DECADES, has had her fundraiser up for FIVE YEARS by know, which is for her to be able to retire with dignity. Not with luxury, but with dignity.
We’re talking about a lady who was at Stonewall, the incident that the white kweers love to talk about. She’s dedicated her whole life to LGBT rights and other causes, she’s done WAY more for LGBT rights than a stupid white gay show could ever dream to do, and that if it actually isn’t a scam.
And that shit gets funded within two days? 15,000 in less than two fucking days and Miss Major hasn’t reached her goal of 200,000 since May 2013.
She’s at 117,991 dollars as of now, after more than five years.
If people had donated a little over 210 dollars each two days she’d be reaching her goal JUST NOW. If this Butch Pal thing fundraiser had been open for about the same time that Miss Major’s has, getting 15,000 each two days, in those same five years they’d get around 14,175,000 dollars.
If Miss Major had steadily received 15,000 dollars each two days, she would have reached her goal within less than a month.
But I guess an unrealistic dumb white show made by transmisogynists and antisemites who hate poor people and threat 17 years old kids for criticizing them is way more important than giving back to a woman who’s done so much for LGBT rights for such a long time.
Anyway, donate to Miss Major’s retirement fundraiser.

When Ron, frustrated with studying for NEWTs and with Hermione’s anxious sixth-year nagging, explains to her what reading is like for him, Hermione’s breath catches. “Ron, you’re dyslexic,” she says, softly, and instantly regrets every snide comment she’s ever made towards his study habits.
Soon, by asking around, Hermione amasses a list of spells for Ron to try - some stilling the page, some changing the font of books for easy reading, some going after Ron’s temporal lobe directly.
These help, a little, but not as much as knowing there’s a word for why reading is so hard for him. That it’s normal, that he’s not stupid, and that Hermione suddenly helps instead of criticizes, looks for solutions rather than complains, praises instead of gloats.
!!! Oh
#listen tho what if #muggles are terrible about disabilities#but wizards are even worse#they don’t even have the terminology that muggles do#it’s all ‘kinda loony’ or “just dim’ or (most often) ‘not a talented witch/wizard’#and ofc ~everyone knows~ that all illnesses can be cured with magic#(except for some magical illnesses that can’t be cured at all)#but as ron talks more with hermione and other muggleborns#and researches the spells hermione gets him#and realizes that most of the spell creators probably also had dyslexia but had no word for it#he realizes that what ‘everyone knows’ isn’t true at all#after abt a year of this he talks to mcgonagall abt changing his career goals#goes into healing with a concentration on research#and a secret concentration on finding out what muggles know and bringing it into the wizarding world#(his dad is so proud of him and prolly helps out a lot too)
this paragraph is better than anything jk ever wrote about grown ron
I’m SCREAMING this girl just asked if I’m doing anything this weekend bc we could hang out and this dude was like “I’M NOT DOING ANYTHING” and she said “sorry I have a family thing all weekend I can’t get out of :/” and turned back to me and proceeded to make plans with me in front of him this is the “*visibly texting* I don’t have a phone” meme on crack

So good, so good, so fucking real
Soft things my dad has done
- One time when he was 18, he was fishing and found a baby salamander someone had tried and failed to use as bait. It had a huge gash in its side and didn’t look like it would make it. He put it in the bucket he was going to put fish in and took it home, then performed “surgery” on the little guy to mend the gash. It couldn’t move, so my dad fed it and nursed it back to health until the gash was healed. Since he’d taken it in as a baby, it wasn’t equipped to stay alive in the wild, so he kept it in a giant aquarium next to his bed. It stayed alive until my sister was born six years later.
- His dad took him deer hunting once when he was in middle school. They hunted all day and never saw a single deer. At the end of the day as the sun was setting, they found one, and my dad yelled at my grandpa not to shoot it because it didn’t deserve to die. He hasn’t been deer hunting since.
- Two people I used to be best friends with don’t have stable parents. My dad takes them out for lunch and out fishing regularly, and even though I am not friends with either of them anymore, he still makes time for them as if they were his own kids.
- Sometimes I catch him crying at videos of dogs on the internet.
- One time he was crying and I asked him what was wrong and he gave me a hug and said there isn’t always a reason. I’ve held on to that.
- He told me that if (if) he dies, he wants to die by being drowned in a horde of puppies because otherwise, what’s the point?
- He makes sure to say “I love you” to my mom and me every day, because he once told me he never once heard it from his parents as a kid.
- Saw my mom looking at a bird, so he found out what kind of bird it was and drew a picture of it for her.
- Heard me crying after a hard day and brought me a box of milk duds, because even though I’m lactose intolerant, it was an occasion on which they were needed.
- Shows me every day that men who feel allowed to be open, vulnerable, soft, and emotional are so much happier than men who are told to keep it all inside.
Friendly reminder that Zuko understood Katara’s trauma more than anyone else in the Gaang because his mother also sacrificed herself for him.
Friendly reminder that because of this, Zuko was able to recognize exactly what Katara needed in order to achieve closure.
Friendly reminder that Zuko was proud of Katara for choosing not to kill Yon Rha, but wouldn’t have blamed her if she did.
Friendly reminder that Zuko didn’t TELL her how to begin healing, but SHOWED her.
Friendly reminder that Zuko never put her on a pedestal, but he also didn’t look down on her because of her trauma.
Friendly reminder that Zuko and Katara would have represented exactly what a HEALTHY couple should look like if they had been endgame.
Friendly reminder that I haven’t stopped crying since the series finale.
what she says: “Oh I don’t mind; we can eat anywhere. I’m not picky.”
what she means: “For my entire life, I’ve been called bossy/picky/selfish/arrogant/bitchy for voicing my own opinions and making my views known, so now when someone I care about asks me about what I want, my immediate gut reaction is to defer to the other person’s preference. it’s less of a hassle to capitulate to someone else’s desires than to risk having someone verbally berate me for being truthful about what I want.”
i still look sometimes
i scroll and scroll and scroll
and i find an old pain
one that is not just my own
it burns still
but it’s from a past
that i shut my eyes to
long ago
